Before You Leave for Summer....
Before you leave to go to your summer home, here are some tips for closing up your Naples home:
- Clean out perishable food from your refrigerator. In case of a tropical storm, your power may be out for several days and you could return to a stinky mess.
- Put all of food in your pantry in your refrigerator. Or even better - donate to Collier Harvest (239) 455-3663. Do not leave any food in the cupboards.
- Turn off the main water valve
- Turn off the circuit breaker for the hot water heater
- Turn off the ice maker and empty the ice bin in the freezer
- Pour a small amount of bleach in the toilets
- Seal the toilet bowl with plastic wrap (to prevent vapors from coming up)
- Turn off the water behind the washing machine
- Close all window coverings to keep the temperature down
- Set the AC to between 78-80 degrees
- Leave the dishwasher ajar for air movement
- Open cabinets, dresser drawers, etc to allow for air movement
- Pour a small amount of vegetable oil in the garbage disposal
- Unplug the microwave and TVs to prevent damage from power surges
- Bring in lanai furniture to prevent molding and keep property safe in case of a storm
- If you live in a condo, be sure the condo manager has a key to your residence, storage unit and any vehicles left on the property before you leave.
Enjoy your summer and I'll see you around town when you return!
